I have a 5 gallon tank and its glass, I also have a 2.5 which is glass. But I do have a small hexagon acrylic tank which I have had for about 8 years or so and has no cracks but they do get scratched very easy.
Before you get a fish for it make sure you look up how big it gets and if it is suited for a tank that small. In mine I only keep bettas.
the only acrylic tank i ever had was 150 gallon never had any color problems.Don’t let minerals deposit on it from evaporation because it wont come off. there are 2.5 and 5 gallon glass tanks out there but accessories are hard to find
No, my tank never turned yellow or cracked.
Go with the 5 gallon. Surface area is what you go by to tell you how many fish is safe. Best to go with fewer fish.
I have read a book that recommended having nothing smaller than a 10 gallon.” The more water you allow for a fish the better. Small fish like black tetra or black neons 5 or 6 would be nice for the 5 gallon tank and they would be happy if your water quality is good. Actually I have 6 black neons in my 10 gallon glass tank right now. They will need a heater.
If you choose dirty goldfish 1 or 2 at the most.
I hope you enjoy your fish as much as I have mine. I have had fish for many years. Be satisfied with less fish and have healthy water=healthy fish.
um the reason why glass is still being used over acrylic is that acrylic distorts the view, when full of water. not really a big issue. also, they scratch really easily. have a look at one full, and see if you can handle the distortion before you buy

My acrylic tank is 125 gallons. Never had troubles with it discoloring. But it scratches easily. Be sure to get an acrylic safe cleaning pad.
