New tanks are more expensive, but it’s better to buya new one because problems occur with used ones. Also, new ones are of better quality. Besides, you are going to need air pumps, and heaters, and a new filter anyway, so why not just get a new tank too?

Hey Zero, send me 10 of them if you have a supply of new tanks at $150. Fishtankdirect.com lists a new 125 gallon tank at $800.

at $150 for this tank, I would be willing to take my chances. Take your time and reseal the thing. Unless there is visible damage, a side isn’t going to blow out now anymore than when new.

bioballs are simply a medium for growing bacteria in your tank. a hundred of them are $6. They take the place of the bacteria medium bag that smaller system use. The balls have more surface are for growing more bacteria required by a large, full tank.

Buy it- even if you are a pats fan

I live in the uk and i bought a second hand tank from ebay with an external filter.

If i were you i would clean out all the tank and get a decent filter system, an Ehiem filter is expensive but well worth it.

Used 10 years ago, thats a LONG time ago, extensive cleaning and it also needs to cycle at least 3-4 weeks before you buy any fish.

New tank that size would cost £300 but you are paying just £50-70 so invest in a filter, you will need one.

    Probably worth the risk.

Be aware it may need resealing, but thats easy enough.

If you buy it, fill it in your garage or outside and leave it a few days to check for leaks. Makes life a lot simpler than finding the leak next morning in your lounge.

You will probably want to buy a new filter for it. But it’s possible to use undergravel and a modern filter together and get extra good filtration, and a backup filter system just in case.

The only thing that can be a problem for you here is that it is a pre drilled tank. The pre drilled tanks are made to have overflow box’s and sump filtration systems. So if this dose not come with all this then you will have to get all the things needed to set it up for that type of filtration. There are many good things about having a sump filter, but you will need to know how one works and how to set it up. The problem with it being pre drilled is that there is no good safe way of sealing the holes that are drilled into the tank, so if you do not want to run that type of filter setup you will be forced into having it anyway.

As far as the age of the tank, you should be fine, I got a 150 gallon tank second hand and it hadn’t been in use for many years, I didn’t reseal it because it looked in good shape, and it has been fine. 10 years isn’t that old for a tank, and depending on how long it was in use before that, you should be ok and not have to do anything to it. It may be a good idea though to set it up outside and fill it and let it sit for a day or two, the only problem there though will be again, the pre drilled holes, if there is no over flow box then the water will just leak out the holes drilled in it. Make sure when you get it to check the seals real well and make sure all the silicone is still in good shape and not deteriorating.

This sounds like a geat deal though, and to get one new would cost you a lot more than this, so it is definatly worth it in my opinion. If you have any questions, feel free to e-mail me.
